The only foundation for artist-aviators.

Forecast Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit established in 2023 by artist-aviator Farida Amar to nurture the next phase of support for a murmuration of visionaries and their ongoing dialogues with Earth and Sky.

Responding to an ever-changing, virtually invisible atmosphere requires an instinctual ability to adapt without delay the second new information becomes available. Perhaps the most important element in fostering a productive climate at Forecast is found in how we integrate multisensory listening as a nonnegotiable pillar of invention. In doing so, we open reciprocal relationships with Earth and Sky — absorbing and projecting forces in both directions. As we build the space, the space builds us, as we construct paths, they construct us; they fill us with their structure, their content, their intention and spirit. Air itself also lives within us.

Forecast Foundation is a base-station for adventurous, independent explorers to meet and share generative ideas and skills, receive access to physical resources, production support and above all, a safe haven to recalibrate. Our land is ultimately a home for the spatial imaginings of our community: prioritizing sustainable living practices providing safety, rest and sustenance for artist-aviators.

The Forecast base-station residence is surrounded by additional apartments, studios and private runway to host artists in residence on 200 acres of land in California’s Mojave Desert.

There are many opportunities to support the work we are doing. To donate, please click here. To inquire about becoming an investor, sponsor, partner or, to discuss any other ideas on how we might be able to work together, please contact farida@forecast.foundation.

Artists

We have worked with writers, photographers and filmmakers, but our family also includes performance artists, dancers, stylists, hair and makeup artists, installation artists, set designers, production assistants, musicians, and editors. The majority of our artists are based in Los Angeles, but we have a growing number of contributors from all of the US and have even found ways to make original work with artists in six countries.

Shoots

We shoot both still and motion concepts on film — 35mm, 120, 4x5, Super8, and 16mm. We have also been known to show up at labs with 110, 116, 216, low ISO, expired x-ray films, 70mm, etc. We now have over 100 film cameras in our collection, including an 8x10. We shoot both in studio and on location. We have run skill sharing workshops to teach each other what we know and continue to experiment with film.

Exhibitions

Forecast hosts fully immersive, multimedia exhibitions accompanied by live performance typically for one night only. These are offered as group shows to celebrate the release of an issue of Forecast Journal or as solo shows to celebrate a hand-selected artist and an original published work or series they've produced with Forecast. Sometimes, Forecast is invited to exhibit work from the collective or to help curate external shows.
